A Greenville County Memorial Day Observation was held at 10 a.m. May 25. The event, moved inside, included a Revolutionary War Patriots dedication.⁠

The guest speakers: Historian Durant Ashmore and others to include federal, state and local officials. A wreath ceremony was scheduled by DAR, Behethland Butler Chapter.⁠

The observation was sponsored by Greenville County Veterans Affairs, Sons of the American Revolution, Upcountry History Museum of Greenville County and Greenville County.

The 2026 Take Flight 5K to benefit Runway Park at Greenville Downtown Airport was held May 23, 2026. The pre-race event included a Memorial Day weekend ceremony. Proceeds will help with the purchasing of future playground equipment at Runway Park. The yearly run raised $48,000, according to event organizers.

A ribbon cutting was held April 23 for the renovated Nicholtown Community Center at 115 Rebecca St. in Greenville. The renovation of the 6,048-square-foot facility began in spring 2025.

The improvements included:

  • Multi-use field and walking track
  • Outdoor fitness and playground equipment
  • New shelters, parking lot and upgrades to the existing parking
  • New basketball hoops, court surface, lighting and fencing
  • New interior room design

The center is also set up to serve as a shelter for neighbors during extreme weather events.

Greenville County’s Department of Social Services office held a ribbon cutting for its refreshed Lily Pad space April 14.

Lily Pad: A Soft Place to Land is in partnership with South Carolina Department of Social Services. It was created to provide a place to rest, play, do homework and regain a sense of calm for children who have experienced trauma.

Greenville County DSS is located at at 352 Halton Road. The Greenville County Lily Pad was originally opened in 2022. For more information visit lilypadinc.org.

The Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk Greenville was held April 11 in Greenville. Zachary Ford of Greenville was the overall winner in 17 minutes, two seconds. Sophia Brown of Pleasanton, CA won the female title in 23 minutes, 20 seconds. The event had 237 finishers.

Greenville County Council issued a proclamation to celebrate Greenville Theatre’s 100th year during its April 7 meeting.

The theatre’s centennial celebration gala will feature Broadway favorite Norm Lewis April 9. The Tony-nominated Lewis will sing Broadway numbers he helped make famous, such a “Stars” from “Les Misérables and “Music of the Night” from “The Phantom of the Opera.”

On motion from Councilor Liz Seman. Members of Greenville County Council wish to celebrate:

Greenville Theatre’s 100th Anniversary

WHEREAS, Greenville Theatre, founded in 1926, proudly stands as the longest operating nonprofit theatre company in the South Carolina Upstate, enriching the community for a century of entertainment through exceptional live theatrical experiences, creative storytelling, and cultural vibrancy; and

WHEREAS, for 100 years, Greenville Theatre has provided transformative experiences, uniting audiences of all backgrounds through a shared appreciation for the performing arts; and

WHEREAS, the Theatre has been instrumental in cultivating and showcasing local talent, launching generations of theatre-goers, actors, directors, technicians, playwrights, and artists, significantly contributing to Greenville’s reputation as a thriving artistic and cultural community; and

WHEREAS, Greenville Theatre has consistently demonstrated a commitment to arts education and accessibility, fostering creativity, imagination, and empathy in countless community members of all ages across the region; and

WHEREAS, the Theatre’s milestone 100-year celebration offers an opportunity to reflect on the institution’s enduring legacy, honor its remarkable impact, and recognize its ongoing contributions to the cultural, educational, and economic vitality of Greenville County.

NOW, THEREFORE, the members of the Greenville County Council do hereby proclaim the month of April 2026 as the centennial celebration of Greenville Theatre and encourage all citizens to join in honoring this historic institution for a century of excellence in the arts.

Bob Jones University will host its annual Living Gallery April 2-4 in Rodeheaver Auditorium on its campus at 1700 Wade Hampton Blvd. in Greenville.

This year’s theme is The Holy Women at the Tomb in 1890.

It was painted in William-Adolphe Bouguereau’s signature smooth and detailed academic style, according to the university. The piece reflects the clarity, idealized figures and precise technique characteristic of 19th‑century academic art. The radiant angel emphasizes the announcement of Christ’s resurrection.

The Anchorage held a ceremony March 13 to install a placard commemorating the restaurant’s mention in the inaugural edition of Michelin Guide American South.

Employees signed the back of the sign before helping with its installation. The Anchorage is located at 586 Perry Ave. in the Village of West Greenville.

The Anchorage was one of four Greenville County restaurants to earn “recommended” mentions in the American South guide. The others were Soby’s and Jianna in downtown Greenville, and Topsoil in Travelers Rest. Scoundrel, a French-inspired restaurant in downtown Greenville, received a Michelin Star.

The honors were announced during a ceremony held at Peace Concert Hall in downtown Greenville on Nov. 3, 2025.

Greenville Technical College named its Center for Manufacturing Innovation in honor of President Emeritus Keith Miller during a ceremony March 10.

The center opened in 2016 and started offering in 2019 South Carolina’s only bachelor’s degree at the two-year college level in advancement manufacturing technology. Keith Miller served as president of Greenville Tech from 2008 until mid-2025. He was succeeded by Larry Miller.

The center is located at 575 Millennium Blvd. in Greenville, near the intersection of Interstate 85 and Laurens Road.

Greenville Little League hosted its opening night at Mayberry Park in Greenville’s Unity Park Feb. 27. Greenville resident and Sterling High School baseball player John Whiteside and city of Greenville councilmembers Dorothy Dowe and Lillian Brock Flemming threw ceremonial first pitches.

City leaders, community members and baseball fans gathered to celebrate the new Little League baseball field opening on Aug. 28, 2025. It is located near Unity Park’s Auro Bridge and the Thomas and Vivian A. Wong Honor Tower.
